Conversation between Boris Buden and Sandro Mezzadra

Remember the gastarbajters (guest-workers)! – so you don’t forget the reality you live in

Gallery Nova, Zagreb

Davor Konjikušić, Closure, 2016

The conversation between Boris Buden and Sandro Mezzadra will focus on how today’s global multiplication of work translates the historical experience of gastarbajter and what has changed in the form and function of labor migration. Also, the lecture will tackle the issue of the recent migration crisis, which undermined the very foundations of the European Union.

Sandro Mezzadra teaches postcolonial studies and contemporary political theory on the University of Bologna. He has published widely on the areas of migration, postcolonial theory, contemporary capitalism, Italian operaismo and autonomist Marxism.

Boris Buden is a writer, cultural critic, and translator whose essays and articles cover topics related to philosophy, politics, translation, linguistics, the post-communist condition, and cultural and art criticism. He is currently Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Art and Design, Bauhaus University, Weimar and a board member of European Institute for Progressive Cultural Policies (eipcp), Vienna.
